As a little kid, I remember poring through the old black and white images in my parent's assortment of family photographs, stored in a very non-archival shoebox. A cowboy with his horse appeared in a couple of the photos. My mother couldn't identify him, so it might have come into the marriage from my dad's side. Years later, I have possession of the stash, and having always been fascinated with the man-and-horse image, the time had come to make a painting inspired by it. I thought of the companionship of this anonymous pair, and how closely they would need to work together to do the work, thus the title Co-Workers.
