Art by Laura Hunt

Welcome to my online gallery! Here's a little background behind the art that I create.

I paint archetypal subjects in a simplified manner to tell a universal story. Several themes are evident in my figurative art. Human relationships. Human emotion. Social issues. Empathy. Color and body language convey the moment’s emotion, the life experienced by each subject. My characters dwell in ambiguous but familiar environments, inviting the viewer into the narrative to understand, but perhaps also to empathize.

Acrylic paint is my foundational medium. Sometimes it stands alone, but I often integrate patterned paper, marks, a scrap of vintage map or cardboard in the work. I work from several sources, including live sketching, vintage photographs, and my own photographic library.

My influences include folk and tribal art, the Abstract Expressionists, and the figurative work of David Park.
