Resume - Laura Eisen Hunt

BACKGROUND

Laura Eisen Hunt earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Wisconsin State University, Platteville, Wisconsin. She began her art studies in her thirties when she took her first figure drawing class under award-winning artist Jose Perez in Houston, Texas. She continued her interest in the figure through portrait classes and intensive reading of books by and about artists whose work she admired. Her over 30-year career as a graphic designer has honed her skills in the elements of art, as she now draws on those concepts in creating fine art. In 2013, she revisited her love for the human figure through figure drawing and watercolor classes taught by Carol Ivey of Fort Worth, Texas. In 2021, Laura enrolled in Art Business Academy, led by gallery owner Jason Horejs, where she strengthened her business skills specifically related to the art industry. She continues to be an avid life-long learner, seeking numerous opportunities to grow as an artist.

SUBJECT AND STYLE

Laura Hunt has worked in textiles, cut paper illustration, watercolors and mixed media. She now focuses on acrylics, mixed media and digital media to create archetypal figures and expressive portraits that are non-academic in nature and emotive in content. Her color palette is varied, with a tendency toward warm reds, oranges and yellows with pops of complementary hues and metallic paints. The work is often peppered with patterned collage elements that energize the surface. Cradled wood panels are her preferred supports, which are durable enough to hold up to the sometimes experimental aspects of her work.
