Given the phrases "liminal spaces" as a painting prompt, I allow the idea to brew in the back of my mind until one day I come across images of my grandchildren at the pool. The water appears to break up the body, causing an abstraction than can occur no other way. Several studies later, I complete this, with teenage grandchild poised between weightlessness and gravity, between childhood and adulthood. It becomes my response to the prompt.
