There wasn't time or a good place to stop that day as I whizzed by on the way to Fort Davis. I couldn't get it out of my head--the silence, the loneliness, the randomness of the tree almost dwarfing the humble structure. As soon as I could, I made a rough sketch, which with my memory, provided the painting with its heart.
